John William Griffith II is an American musician based in Amsterdam. He is currently pursuing a masters in choral conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam studying with Maria van Nieukerken. John’s compositional output features works for chorus, opera, solo voice, orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music London (MMus 2023) and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (BMus 2020).

72nd Annual BMI Composer Award Winners announced

John has been named one of this year’s recipients of the BMI Composer Award for his piece “Gospel Oak: nine songs for double choir a cappella.” The BMI Foundation hosted the winners for an award ceremony in New York City on 13 May 2024. John joins composers Arjan Singh Dogra, Luke Haaksma, Ennis Suavengco Harris, Paul Novak, Sofia Jen Ouyang, and Ziyi Tao in this year’s cohort.
